Long time no see

Wow, I'm really bad at this. I forget to update, and then I don't feel like updating anymore because too much time has passed. But enough of that, I'm starting to miss blogging about random stuff.

So anyway, my cosplay plans have changed. I'm not doing Ciel anymore, I want to do him justice but it would be way too expensive and time consuming. So I have decided to do Youmu Konpaku instead, for the Touhou Project games. In fact I started playing like 2 weeks ago xD I beat Imperishable Night on easy last week. Right now I'm playing Perfect Cherry Blossom on easy, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on normal [beat it on easy last week too] and Imperishable Night on normal. I'd like to play Perfect Cherry Blossom on normal but it's way harder than the other 2. I rarely even get to Youmu [stage 5 boss].

 Youmuuu :D

Anyway, so I have found the wig and the color contacts that I want, and I'll go buy some fabric next week. I also started searching on the web for a nice blouse in case I don't find one here [I don't want to make it, I don't think I'm good enough yet, but I can make a skirt and a vest]. So I went on Bodyline's website and found some nice ones but .. They're all way too big! What the hell .. Usually with Bodyline, the smallest size is M but for skirts and dresses it fits me. But for blouse, the bust is like 10 cm too big. It seems that we can adjust them in the back though, and maybe they listed the biggest mesurement, not the smallest.

Ugh, I have so much to do today and no motivation .. maybe I'll post again later..

You know ..

Now that I finished Persona 3, I don't understand how people can ship Minato with anyone else other than Aigis. No, seriously. That final scene and all .. it was very powerful, and cute, in a bittersweet way .. Also, the Aigis social link is definitely my favourite one, and with what happens at the end, I can't help but pair her with Minato .. even though she's a robot.

But yeah, I like searching for fanarts of things I like, but when I search for Persona 3 fanarts, I find so much more drawings of Akihiko x Minato [what?], Shinji x Minato [double what], Aki x Shinji x Minato [Okay seriously if you really want a yaoi pairing make it just Shinji and Aki and leave Minato out of it], Minato x Ryoji [okay, this one I can understand, I just don't like Ryoji that much and he has Nyx's hairstyle so wut], and Minato x Pharos [goddamnit guys he's a kiiiid D: I know Aigis is a robot but at least she looks the right age]

Anyway, who am I kidding, of course there's more yaoi shit then everything else. I'll stay in my little corner of Minato x Aigis.

Also I very obviously changed the background picture. It's Chidoriiii, and while we're on that subject you are all obligated to ship her with Junpei because THEY ARE FUCKING CUTE. And canon too. I did not made the picture of course, but I took it on tumblr and thus don't remember the original artist .. sorry.

Oh, and right after I finished watching Ore no Imouto [Kuroneko is the best and gawd Kirino what a bitch], I started to watch Gosick and Kuragehime. They're both so good D: Gosick is still airing right now, and I've only watched two episodes of Kuragehime but I love both of these animes already. I'll possibly talk more about them later, especially Gosick since it's stil quite new.

I will never leave you.

I JUST FINISHED PERSONA 3! I'm happy and a little sad, too .. This was truly one of best games I've played yet. It .. means a lot to me, and I think I have learned along with the characters too. I may sound silly but that's how it is.

You know, today I was reading an article about how, right now, video games aren't considered art like movies and books, and how come it is that way. The thing is that, many games are made just for the sake of entertainment, and that's okay. When you look at it, most of these games [Halo, Call of Duty, whatever] are the ones that sell the best. But I think we shouldn't dump all games in this category, just like all movies aren't American Pie or Pirate of the Caribbeans.

Some games can be considered work of arts, if they can touch the hearts of people playing them. This was one of those games, and I'm really glad that I played it to the end, even if it meant spending about a 100 hours of my life on it.

I'm gonna make a real update soon, I guess. It's spring break now, so I'll have the time to do so.

Not dead yet.

Well, I thought I should stop procrastinating now. I've been wanting to update for a while but I never got around to it due to various reason. First, I'm busy with school, and second, some stuff happened that I do not feel like talking about, and I was kinda down for a while.

Now it's okay though, so I guess it's time for a proper update. Since there's nothing interesting going on in my life right now, I'll talk about other stuff.

I was able to watch some animes at school, so I continued with K-ON!!, even though I'm getting kinda bored with that serie. It's nice, but I really wish the girls would play more music instead of just .. I don't know, not doing anything remotely interesting. I mean, they still haven't wrote more than 3-4 songs and they've been in the music club for almost 3 years. Anyways.

I also watched the first season of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, which I had been wanting to see for like 3 years or something xD. I like it, the animation is gorgeous and overall it is pretty funny. And Nozomu is a large ham, at least for someone that claims so much to be in despaaaiiiirrrr all the time. The only thing that annoys me is the lack of male characters, exept for Nozomu of course, and the bald dude. Maybe the show is trying to laugh of harem anime, I don't know, but one or two male students wouldn't hurt, especially since it's not even a girls-only school.

And now, I started watching a show that I am definitely ashamed of liking. I mean, more ashamed about it than about Lucky Star, and I was pretty ashamed of Lucky Star at first. So yeah, it's Ore no Imoto ga Konna ni  Kawaii Wake ga Nai. Pretty long title, it means There's no way my little sister can be this cute. I started to watch it because I kept seeing the main girl, Kirino, fucking errryywhere and I wanted to know what this show was about. Turns out, it's about a 14 years-old girl that plays eroge about little sisters [erotic games for the non japanese shit savvy] and watches moe anime but wants to keep her hobby secret, for obvious reason. So her 17 years-old bro Kyou-chan [can't remember his full name wtf] helps her keeping it secret, even though she's almost always a major bitch to him. So, why do I like it? Frankly, I don't really know. The animation is nice enough, and I like the fact that it talks about how the ''otaku culture'' is perceived in Japan, which is pretty interesting in my opinion [of course it's an anime so I take it all with a grain of salt but it's still nice]. Also, Kuroneko is awesome haha she's easily my favourite character. However, Kirino [the little sis] can be so annoying, it sometimes makes me wonder why the hell am I watching this thing. Way to be ungrateful.

Also, I don't like too much the incest undertones, even though for now it really seems to be played for laughs. I'm just scared it will go further than that .. Because honestly, anyone who has a sibling knows that brother/sister incest is pretty much do not want. Anyways, it's only 12 episodes long so I decided that I might as well watch it all.

What else? I'm almost finished with Persona 3, only one in-game month left. I finally started to fuse some ultimate personas xD Right now I only have Thanatos and Sandalphon but I plan on getting some others like Beelzebub, Odin and Asura. Also, I'm not sure whether I should get Messiah or not. His name is pretty awesome lol, but I heard that it was weak .. We'll see.

And that's about it for now. Nothing really interesting, sorry, but as I said life isn't too great right now. I'll try to not abandon this blog as much though xD.

OMGGUYSGYSGUYS

GUESS WHAT??

I have a job. Well, kinda. It's not a real job in any case but still, I'm happy. Basically I'll do some translation work [english to french] for someone that is currently studying for a ph.d in psychology. I gotta thank my brother for that, he's the one that got me the job.

I'm so fucking glad, honestly. I'll be able to make a bit of money and, most importantly, add something to my resume. Feelsgoodman.jpg.

On another note .. I started to make a skirt yesterday. I hope it will turn out well. The only thing I'm worried about is the zipper actually.. We'll see. After that, I want to make a simple circle skirt with some nice fabric. Maybe a print if I can find one that I like.

Also, that's me in front of my computer :

[ah, I wish ..]
That's about it :B

So..

2010 has come and gone now. I can honestly say that it was one of the best year in my life. Sure, it had it's load of bad stuff but I retrospective it was pretty good overall. I can only hope for 2011 to be even better!

Anyway, I didn't do anything special on New Year's Eve. I watched a movie named Mein Name ist Bach, which is obviously a movie about the compositor Johann Sebastian Bach and, guess who? Frederick II of Prussia! Hehehe. It was pretty good, my mom loved it. I loved it too, I mean, a movie with der alter Fritz! Of course I have to love it. Even though Fritz was kinda portrayed as the ''bad guy''. While I'm sure Fritz was rather autoritarian, I believe he never was as mean and egoistic as he was in this movie. But yeah, that's just me, you know I like him a lot so obviously I don't think he's cruel or anything.

So yeah, on the first I saw my family and it was nice, there were some people I hadn't talked to in a long time and I kinda missed them. I dressed really aristocratic, with my pocket watch and all, it was awesome. That night I watched Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain with my cousin. I realized that when I saw that movie has a kid, I never fully understood it .. now I think I do. It's really good in any case. I love how it manages to be a love movie without being completely cheesy, it's a nice change.

Anyway, yesterday I saw yet another movie, this time in theatres with one of my friend. We went to see Tangled, Raiponce in french [what an ugly name, I prefer Rapunzel ..]. It was much better than I expected! Maybe it's just me but I think it has the overall ''feel'' of older disney movies [like snow white or cinderella]. Even the animation is similar, it's the same style of drawing, but in 3D. There's even songs! Yeah, a classic Disney movie, I recommend it, it's really good.

Before that though, I went shopping with my parents and we went to Fabricville to buy, well, fabrics. And patterns. I bought a pattern for 3 lolita-ish skirts. They're a bit too short to be truly lolita but otherwise they have the right shape and all! It's apparently easy too. Also, I saw a pattern for historical 18th century clothes, and it really looks like the prussian uniform if we changed the colors! Since it was at halfprice I also bought it. I definitely want to do a Prussia cosplay now. The difficulty is average so I'll wait a bit though. But it's cool, the pattern includes everything, the tricorne hat, the jacket, the shirt, the vest and the pants. Oh yeah, the uniform I'm talking about is pretty much this one :

I'll need to change the jacket a bit and make the white thingy from scratch, aswell as the jabot but otherwise I've got everything. Also I want to make that decoration thing he has, and GILBIRD. WITH A TRICORNE HAT. OH YEAH. Can't be a Prussia without a chick~

I'm really motivated right now, if you can't guess XD This entry is getting long so I'll stop it there. I should make a new design for this blog .. anyway.

Kirby's Epic Yarn Review time!

So let's have some kind of a backstory here .. When I was younger, I really loved videogames but rarely did I play them myself, firstly because I had an older brother that claimed that our consoles were his, and secondly because, being older, he was obviously better than me and that was frustrating. So for the most part I only watched people playing videogames because I thought I sucked. Obviously that is no longer the case, thankfully. Still, there were two game series that I never, ever stopped playing in my entire life. The first one is Pokémon, and the second one is Kirby.

So, Kirby. I love those games to death, not a fan of platformers usually but the Kirby games are so bright and fun and overall, well, easier. [depends though, Sakurai likes having hard boss fights so while the stages are easy the bosses aren't always so] So yeah, I played pretty much every regular Kirby game [not the spin-offs, they kind of suck imo] and I loved them all. Obviously when I learned that there would be, finally, a Kirby game for the Wii, I was really excited. I was thinking they'd do a game similar to Kirby 64, in sorta half-3D, or a completely 3D game. So when I learned that it was going to be a regular platformer, I was kinda disappointed.

However the previews were promising. The graphic was extremely pleasing and original, and the guys at E3 that tried the game said it was good. And since it was a Kirby game and I'm a huge fan, I couldn't actually hate it. So here's my review of the game. I'll try to be objective but I'm not promising much, for all of the reasons stated above. Also bear in mind that I haven't finished the game yet so I haven't seen everything.

So the story starts with Kirby taking a stroll or whatever in peaceful Dreamland, when suddenly!! an evil wizard called Yin-Yarn [that transforms stuff into yarn] sends him into Patchland, which is a land made of Yarn and other various fabrics. There he meets Prince Fluffy, who is a blue kirby-like creature with brows and a crown. Prince Fluffy tells Kirby that Patchland has been torn a part by Yin-Yarn and Kirby, being Kirby, decides to help the Prince to stitch the kingdom back together.

As you can story, the story is, well .. childish, to say the least. However that's pretty much the case of every kirby game and honestly, who the hell plays these games for their stories? They're just there to form a sort of plot behind the gameplay, that's all. So while the backstory of the game is a little lacking, I don't think it's really that much of a problem.

Onto the main part [in my opinion] : the gameplay. It plays like any normal platformer : a d-pad, a button to jump and a button to attack. Simple and effective. Now my main concern with the gameplay, prior to actually playing the game, was the wiimote. You see, to play the game, you hold the wiimote sideways. I thought it would be weird and unpractical, but no. You don't actually use the A and B buttons, but the 1 and 2, so it feels like any other controller.

Also, in this game, Kirby lose his inhale/copy power ability. It's a bit of a shame because it was something that I really liked, exploring the different possibilities of the different powers and combos [like in Crystal Shards or the Dreamland serie with the animals] However this is replaced by some parts of the stages transforming Kirby into some kind of vehicle [like a firetruck or a sort of rally car]. You get transformed into a firetruck during a fire stage, for example, and then have to extinguish fires before they can burn you. I'm really explaining this badly, my english kinda sucks tonight.

Anyway, some of these transformations are rather nice and entertaining and others are just kinda annoying, but I guess it depends on everyone. Oh yeah, another change in the gameplay is that you no longer have ''hitpoints'. If you run out of beads, you don't actually die, there's no game over. The thing is that you get a score from how many beads you have when you finish the stage, so the less you get hit and the more you collect beads, the highest score you'll get. I think it's a good idea because that way, everyone can play the game and beat it without it being extremely frustrating. However, it alsos leaves place for challenge : you wanna have the highest score possible. So a gamer that wants some challenge will have some, since you lose a rather large amount of beads whenever you get hit.

Furthermore, each stage has 3 hidden items that you can find. Some of them are more hidden than others of course, and it's quite fun to try and get them all. Reminds me a bit of The Great Cave Offensive of Super Star. There are also some minigames but I'm not gonna talk about them since they aren't that relevant and I'm pretty sure you aren't obligated to them at all.

This review is getting way longer than I expected. Anyway, we're gonna talking about the graphics! Now, I'm not that much of a fan of the super-realistic graphics trend that's been going on lately. Sure, FFXIII looks really great and all, but I want my videogames to look like, well, videogames. Not reality. I also really love it when they try to find an interesting style for the game's graphics, instead of just being OH HEY LOOK HOW REALISTIC WE ARE [by the way guys you'll need a HD tv to fully appreciate this, lulz] To me, games with graphics like Okami, for instance, are just as breathtaking, if not more, than uber-realistic games. But I digress.

Like every other kirby game, the graphics are very colourful and cute. Everything looks like it's really made from cloth, and mostly everything is so imaginative. The ''fabric concept'' actually takes a part in the gameplay : you swing kirby accross pits by tying him to some buttons, etc. It's really nice. You can often interact with the background but pulling threads and unzipping things. Plus, like I said, some of the stages are just so damn cute! The Sweet Park one reminds me of an Angelic Pretty print, and I wish I could find pictures of it right now, dammit! Anyway, pretty much every stage is some kind of eye-candy, none of them are boring looking.

The only thing that I don't like so much about the game is the music. It's not bad, it's just not .. energetic enough for me. It fits well with the rest of the game though, I guess I was just expecting some cheery music like Green Greens.

So, for TL;DR people : if you like platformers or are a Kirby fan : this is for you! If you're unsure about the game, give it a try, it's a good one. Finally, if you do not like platformers at all, or if you think Kirby is cheesy, well, it will probably not be for you. I think it's still worth a try though, the game is pretty easy is you don't mind getting a high score so it's not frustrating, and hell, my brother and his bunch of friends love it! And they're all 20s something grown men! You won't be emasculated from playing this game I promise! And in any case, it will never be as bad as Robot Unicorn Attack.

Sooo that's about it. I apologize for the overly long review. I gotta say I write these mostly for myself, they're a great english practise I think. It's also rather fun to think about what I like and don't like about a game, a book or a movie. I prefer doing game reviews though, since I feel like I can comment better about the gameplay and all, as opposed to criticising someone's writing style or something. [Also lately I mostly read classics and I don't think I'm up to the challenge of making a review of War and Peace and Les Misérables haha]

FFf GOTTA STOP TYPIIIING I love typing on my netbook since I haven't fucked up the keyboard yet~ I somehow tend to fuck up beyond repair every keyboard I can lay my hands on for a while. It's because I type very fast and uh, furiously. I'm not always like this but when I'm having an interesting conversation with someone on msn you can literally hear me typing at the other side of the house. I'm not really conscious of this either, I'm not doing it on purpose. So yeah, beware, little keyboards .. :B
